2999 - Tainan, Taiwan

Yuyun is a new Postcrosser. My card is the 10th one she has sent. She chose a photo of dragon boat racing, an event that only takes place once a year in Tainan. Dragon boat racing originated from the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province of China. Contending villages have been competing against one another for 2000 years in China.  Today, the International Dragon Boat Federation governs the sport. Boats are allowed 22 people, not including the steersperson and the drummer.  In China, the government added the Dragon Boat Festival to the schedule of national holidays in December 2007.

2998 - Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Hirrem is the reason I'm back on my blog as she wondered on her card how I will feature her card. Her card is from Broken Hill. Broken Hill is an inland mining city in the far west of the New South Wales outback. The discover of silver ore lead to the opening of various mines, which back Broken Hill prosperous up to the 1990s. The economy of Broken Hill experienced a slowdown in the late 1900s and early 2000s. It was added to the National Heritage List in 2015 and is still Australia's longest running mining town.  The 53 Mega Watts Broken Hill Solar Plant was completed in 2015 and is one of the largest solar power farms in the Southern Hemisphere. The Australian and New South Wales government largely funded the building of the plant in order to move away from coal generated power.

2997 - Pekan, Pahang, Malaysia

Pekan is the royal town of the state of Pahang. Its name comes from the the Bunga Pekan, a Malaysian flower.  Pekan is also the home of the state's royal family headed by Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Aimarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah (phew). His short title is Abdullah of Pahang. He was installed as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (king of Malaysia) and Sultan of Pahang in January 2019. He was also a gold medalist in polo at the 1983 South East Asian Games in Singapore.

2996 - Poltava, Ukraine

I haven't received a card from Ukraine in sometime, due to the ongoing war against Russia (I am assuming). Anastasia sends a card by painter Mariya Panchenko. It looks to be of a Ukrainian folk tale. Hawks are watching over sleeping people.  Anastasia is new to Postcrossing - I am her 10th card sent!

2995 - Hong Kong

Wingyi sent a HongKongPost card of Storm Riders, which is a Hong Kong made comic book series.  The story is set in the  jianghu  (martial artists' community) of China during the  Ming dynasty . The two protagonists – Nie Feng (Wind) and Bu Jingyun (Cloud) – learn martial arts in their early years and grow up to become legendary figures in the  jianghu . As the story progresses, more characters are introduced in new story arcs. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fung_Wan)

I'm Back

I was always 20-30 card behind on the blog but then I missed a few days; and then a few more days; and then a few more days. Next thing you know, I'm 430 cards behind. So instead of trying to catch them up, I am going to start with the four cards I received today. I have H irrem from Australia to thank for that as she was looking forward to see if her card featured in the Blog. If that's not a good enough excuse to start back up, then I don't know what is. Today's cards came from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Ukraine, and Australia.
