Paul Bunyan is a giant lumberjack and folk hero in American and Canadian folklore. He is usually accompanied by his pet ox and working animal, Babe the Blue Ox. He originated in the oral tradition of North American loggers, and was later popularized by William B. Laughead in a promotional pamphlet of the Red River Lumber Company.  Paul Bunyan was adapted by many writers. Walt Disney Studios produced Paul Bunyan as an animated short musical and Mel-O-Toons made a cartoon about his exploits.  There are oversized statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe in a number of communities in Canada and North America. 

The back of this card is great. The sender sent in on Hallowe'en and decorated it up. Eagan is a city just south of St. Paul, on the south bank of the Minnesota River. There are almost 70 000 people in Eagan.  It is known as the "Onion Capital of the United States."

The sender was in Las Vegas recently and bought this card from The Mob Museum. The Mob Museum, officially known as the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, is located in downtown Las Vegas. It open in 2012. It features artifacts, stories, and the history of organized crime in the United States, but also the actions and initiatives by law enforcement to prevent such crimes.  The museum is found at the former Las Vegas Post Office and Courthouse, which was built in 1933.  The quote on this card was from John Gotti. John Gotti (1940-2002) was the mafioso and boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. After ordering the killing of Gambino boss Paul Catellano in 1985, he took over the family and led what was the United States' most powerful crime syndicate. He was known as The Teflon Don  after three high profile trials in the 1980s resulted in acquittals. Clear Lake has a population of 7700 people and is named after the large lake on which it is located. Marinas, state parks, and tourism fuel much of the economy in Clear Lake.  Clear Lake is a part of rock 'n roll lore as it was near Clear Lake where the plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson) crashed killing all three, including pilot Roger Peterson. The plane crashed after losing control in poor weather at night.  This card depicts the Minnesota Ore Docks in Duluth, Minnesota. The card looks to be from the 70s or 80s. 

Owatonna is a city of 26 000 in south east Minnesota. It was first settled in 1853. Owatonna was originally named Straight River, but was soon changed to Owatonna after the name of a local indigenous chief's daughter.  The Steele County Blades https://www.scbladeshockey.com/ of the United States Premier Hockey League play in Owatonna. They are in the Midwest West Division. They finished in sixth place in the division, and 44th overall, with a 19-22-2-1-1 record in 2022-23.  The USPHL is for players aged 20 and under.                            

The sender was from Arlington, Texas, but has since moved to Gary, Minnesota. Gary is a small town of 227 people. It was named for Garrett L. Thorpe, a pioneer merchant. The town was laid out in 1883, and the post office started up in 1887.  The Agassiz Recreation Trail goes through Gary. This trail is an 85 km multi-use trail in northwest Minnesota. One can hike, cycle, horseback ride, cross-country ski, snowmobile, and ATV on this trail. The trail used to be an abandoned rail bed that ran parallel to state highways 32 and 102. The trail starts in Ulen, goes through Twin Valley, Gary, Fertile, and ends up in Crookston. 

I'm afraid that the explanation of the card is partially covered by a postage stamp. It is a photo by Sophie Thun and the artwork is called secession by Yuji Agematsu. The Miguel Abreu Gallery opened in 2006 in New York City, with a second location opening two blocks away in 2014. They opened to stage large scale project and exhibitions. The gallery stages conceptually-charged one person and group shows as well as performances, film screenings, and lectures. 

Cari sent a card about Wisconsin cheese, but talked about living in Whistler, BC for a year and wanting to go see a Canucks game. However, she is a Minnesota Wild supporter. Sigh.... The Minnesota Wild are a National Hockey League team that started play in the 2000-01 season. Minnesota had an NHL team, the North Stars since 1967, but they relocated to Dallas in 1993. They haven't had a lot of playoff success over the years, making it to the Conference Final once (final four). 

Bethany from Minneapolis sent me a card that her grandparents sent her from their visit to Florida. After reading about both cities, Panama City, Florida seemed more interesting.  According to Wikipedia, Panama City got its name because, "George Mortimer West hoped to spur real estate development in Bay County during a period of intense popular interest in the construction of the  Panama Canal  by changing the town's name from Harrison to Panama City, because a straight line between  Chicago  and Trujillo Honduras the Central American country  Panama's national capital  intersected the Florida town. Additionally, since required meanders around land formations in a seaborne route to the canal added distance when starting at other ports, Panama City was the closest developed port in the US mainland to the  Caribbean  entrance of the Panama Canal."
