Scranton is a city of 77 000 people, and is a part of the Scranton-Wilkes Barre-Hazleton Metropolitan Area, which has 563 000 people.  The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are the minor league affiliate of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. They play in the American Hockey League, the second tier of professional hockey in North America. The Penguins are the franchise's fourth located. They were formed in 1981 as the Fredericton Express, moved to Halifax in 1988 to become the Citadels, left for Cornwall, Ontario to become the Aces in 1993, and were moved to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the 1999 season. The Penguins have been tot he Calder Cup finals three times, but have come up short all three times.
