This is a great reproduction of a tourist card probably from the 1940s or 50s. The sender is a life long resident of the east coast and is from Eatontown, a borough of Monmouth County. However he says his grandmother is from Red Deer, Alberta, about a 4.5 hour drive from where I am, and her brother was a Member of Parliament for a riding on Vancouver Island! Small world. 

This card comes from Sherwood Park, just outside of Edmonton, but it is from Japan. I love this type of Japanese art. 

A great Postcrossing Meet Up card for the 20th anniversary of Postcrossing in Redwater. Looks there were three participants!  Redwater is located about 50 kilometres north of Edmonton and has about 2100 residents. The name comes from the Redwater River, which is usually ochre-coloured and drains into the North Saskatchewan River. 

Calgary is a 2.5 hour drive from me. I've been there many times. It is the largest city in the province of Alberta and home to the world famous Calgary Stampede. The Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League play there - they are getting a brand new arena in a couple of seasons. The Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League play there - they need a new stadium. 

I was thrilled to receive this card. The sender is from Ucluelet, which is on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I lived there for five years when I was a boy. Ucluelet is south of the Pacific Rim National Park, and about 30 minutes south of its more well known cousin, Tofino. Tofino is the village that gets all the attention between the two places.  Ucluelet is an anglicized version of  Yuułuʔił , which means "people of the safe harbour in Nuu-chah-nulth language and is the homeland of the  Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ  people. When I lived there in the late 70's and early 80's, logging and fishing were the main industries in town. Today, Ucluelet has transitioned to a year-round tourism based economy. About 90 000 visitors come to Pacific Rim National Park, Ucluelet, and Tofino every year. Tofino is a favourite vacation spot for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who will surf at Long Beach. The card the sender sent me is from Princeton, British Columbia. She bought in on a road trip...

Calgary is a 2.5 hour drive from where I live. The sender spared me the usual card of the Rocky Mountains she sends everyone else, and sent an Opel Motoclub card.  Opel is a German automobile maker. However, the company first began  in 1886 when sewing machine manufacturer, Adam Opel, decided to start making bikes. Eventually, Opel started making cars in 1899.  Opel's main headquarters is in  Rüsselsheim am Main. Stellantis currently owns Opel.
