3378 - Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany

FC St. Pauli plays in the St. Pauli area of Hamburg. They play in the 2.Bundesliga. They were founded in 1910. They have played in the Bundesliga a couple of times, but were relegated back to 2.Bundesliga after each season (2001-02 and 2010-11).  In the mid 1980s the club became a Kult club. The area of town they play in, St. Pauli, was known as being a red light district and active night life. An alternative fan scene slowly emerged and was built around left-leaning politics, social activism, and a party atmosphere at matches. Punk music plays at the stadium. The skull and crossbones flag was adopted as their own unofficial emblem. St. Pauli became the first team in Germany to officially ban right-wing nationalist activities and displays in its stadium. In the early 1980s, the club was barely getting 2000 spectators for their games. They now sell out their 20 000 seat stadium frequently.

Svetlana sends a great card promoting the football club FC St. Pauli. Their local rival is HSV (Hamburger Sport-Verein). When FC St. Pauli and HSV play one another, the matches are known as Hamburger Stadtderby, or the Derby.  FC St. Pauli plays in 2.Bundesliga, the second highest level of football in Germany. Last season they finished in 10th place out of 18 teams.  The front of the card translates to "Hamburg stands by FC St. Pauli."
