This card shows a gondola and gondolier at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Venetian was one of my favourite casinos to visit when I was in Las Vegas. It is ornate inside and out. There was an area inside that felt like you were on an Venetian street. We didn't ride the gondola but maybe next time.  The sender lives in Las Vegas. I remember asking someone I played Scrabble with online who lived in Las Vegas how can you live in Las Vegas? I said I could imagine there are a lot of distractions. She responded that most locals don't go to the Las Vegas Strip and there is a lot to do in Las Vegas that has nothing to do with gambling or high end entertainment. 

The sender says this photo was taken by a local artist at the downtown arts district.  She is also happy as the Las Vegas Aces, of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) won their third WNBA title in four years.  The Las Vegas Aces are one of the original WNBA teams, but not in Las Vegas. They began in 1997 as the Utah Starzz; moved to San Antonio in 2003 to become the San Antonio Silver Stars; made a name tweak to just the San Antonio Stars in 2014; and moved to Law Vegas to become the Aces in 2014. They play out of Michelob Ultra Arena in Paradise, Nevada. Mark Davis, the owner of the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League, owns the Aces. 

Cathedral Rock, located in Arizona, has been seen in countless Hollywood movies, usually westerns. It is a turreted sandstone butte towering 87 meters high at its highest point (1500 meters above sea level). Cathedral Rock is within Coconino National Forest in Yavapai County in central Arizona, about 2.5 km from Sedona. 

A great Pacific Northwest postcard with Sasquatch (Bigfoot) in the background. Sasquatch is a mythical creature said to inhabit the forests in Pacific Northwest in the United States, and in British Columbia in Canada.  The writer says she was in Seattle when she sent this, but is from Las Vegas. However, since last November, she has moved to Florida and has retired from nursing. 

I received the exact same card a few weeks before this one. See 3618. Las Vegas, of course, is world renowned resort city, where people can gamble, shop, eat at fine dining establishments, see international entertainers, and partake in a wild night life. Las Vegas has also become more family friendly in the last two decades. I have been twice - both for conferences. The second time I was there it was extremely busy on the Las Vegas strip. My wife and I enjoyed walking through all the hotels. We also saw a  Cirque du Soleil , which we both extremely enjoyed. 

I remember seeing the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign when I first visited Las Vegas and was a bit star struck. It's one of those things you see all the time in movies and on television shows. My first time in Las Vegas was for a conference on educational assessment (yes, it was as 'exciting' as it sounds). A colleague and myself were on Freemont Street when we stumbled upon filming for the television series, CSI - this was CSI 's second or third season. We didn't see much but briefly saw one of the stars of the show. We then ran into some extras dressed as police officers and had them pretend handcuff us. The one extra had a cigarette in his mouth while he pretend to handcuff my colleague.  Ted Rogich, a local Las Vegas businessman, felt a flashy sign was needed to welcome visitors to Las Vegas. Betty Willis designed the now world famous sign in 1959. The sign was erected by Western Neon on a lonely stretch of U.S. 91 where the lights of Las Vegas still ...

The sender was in Las Vegas recently and bought this card from The Mob Museum. The Mob Museum, officially known as the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, is located in downtown Las Vegas. It open in 2012. It features artifacts, stories, and the history of organized crime in the United States, but also the actions and initiatives by law enforcement to prevent such crimes.  The museum is found at the former Las Vegas Post Office and Courthouse, which was built in 1933.  The quote on this card was from John Gotti. John Gotti (1940-2002) was the mafioso and boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. After ordering the killing of Gambino boss Paul Catellano in 1985, he took over the family and led what was the United States' most powerful crime syndicate. He was known as The Teflon Don  after three high profile trials in the 1980s resulted in acquittals. Later it was revealed that the trials had been tainted by jury tampering, juror misconduct, and...
