3552 - Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

A nice piece of street art from Hamilton, Ontario. The sender is a student and sometimes actor. This card was sent in July of 2023 and he says it is hot, but luckily they have access to a Great Lake to cool down! Hamilton is located about 45 km south of Toronto and is a part of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (7.3 million people). Hamilton itself has 570 000 of those people.  Steel and heavy manufacturing were a bit part of the economy up to the 2010s, when the city began to shift towards a service sector (health and sciences). 3253 - Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I love vintage team photos and this is a great one! A team photo of the University of Toronto's Women Hockey Team at Victoria College Rink in 1912. Outside, dressed for winter, wearing long skirts! Did they get to wear shin pads? I can only find information about the University of Toronto women's team dating back to 1922. They joined the Ladies Ontario Hockey Association. They won the provincial championship in 1924 and then withdrew in 1925 as they "took issue with certain unsatisfactory aspects of competition and debate as to the acceptable definition of womanhood." The sender also writes that she will be writing her Canadian Citizenship Exam later in the month (February). I hope she did well and has been able to obtain her citizenship!
