It is located on the island of Shikou  四国.  Ehime FC  愛媛フットボールクラブ  is Matsuyama's representative in the J League. They compete in the third division, or J3 League. In 2023, they finished first in the league and will play in J2 in 2024. The club was formed in 1970 as the Matsuyama Soccer Club. It was renamed Ehime FC in 1995. For years they competed at the regional and prefecture level as there was already another Matsuyama team competing in the J League. The club was promoted to the J League in 2003, playing in the Japan Football League, the fourth tier of Japanese football.
