There are 14 million people in Tianjin 天津!  It is governed as one of the four municipalities under the direct administration of the State Council of China (Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing are the other three).  It is found on the coast of the Bohai Gulf in the Yellow Sea. It is a part of the Bohai Economic Rim. Needless to say it is a very important economic driver of China. 

Wonderful news from this sender. He just became a father to a daughter 12 days ago (this would have been in August 2024). 

The sender is an aircraft maintenance engineer from Beijing. The card he sent was from Hong Kong. It's a photo of a China Southern Airlines plane. 

This is a Postcrossing Meet Up card. It looks like 6-7 people attended.  This is the football pitch at the Chinese University of Petroleum  中国石油大学 (华东)  The sender is a teacher, so I'm not sure if he attended this university, but he did say he played football on this pitch a couple of times.  The university focuses on: Chemical Engineering and Technology Mineral Resources Prospecting and Exploration Oil and Gas Well Engineering Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering Oil and Gas Field Development Enigineering

Xi'ning  西宁市 is the capitol city of Qinghai Province. It was a commercial hub along the Northern Silk Road's Hexi Corridor for over 2000 years. It was also used as a stronghold of the Han, Sui, Tang, and Song dynasties' resistance against nomadic attacks from the west.  Xi'ning hold several site of religious significance to Muslims (Donnguan Mosque) and Buddhists (Ta'er Monastery).  The World Health Organization listed Xi'ning as having the second worst air quality among eleven western Chinese cities, including Beijing (2011).

Huangcun is a town found in the northwest corner of the Baxing District in Beijing. It is home to about 180 000 people. It is actually three separate regions that are disconnected from one another. It got its name after the region was flooded during the Yuan Dynasty. When the water receded, it formed a large desert landscape. Huangcun translates to Deserted Village . 

The Great Wall of China is one of China's biggest tourist attractions. Most of the tourists visit the Great Wall at Badaling. It is located about 80 I'm north west of Beijing. The portion of the Great Wall at Badaling was built in 1504, during the Ming Dynasty. The highest point of the wall here gets to just over 1000 meters above sea level.  This section of the wall underwent restoration  and was the first part of the wall to open to tourism in 1957. Millions of visitors  come to Badaling, which has seen significant development in the tourism sector. 

Beijing, of course, is the capital city and largest city in the People's Republic of China.  The Kunlun Red Star, a professional hockey team that plays in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), started in 2016. The International ice Hockey Federation was excited for this opportunity to bring China's ice hockey to a higher level since they were hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics.  Red Star's won their first league game with a 2-1 win over Amur Khabarovsk. Sean Collins, born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, scored the Red Star's first goal at the 14:00 minute mark of the first period. Collins was drafted 187th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League in 2008. He played parts of three seasons with Columbus and one with the Washington Capitals recording 3 assists in 21 NHL games. A great official 2008 summer Olympics card photo of the 'Bird's Nest" 鸟巢.  The Bird's Nest, or the National Stadium  国家体育场  was built with seating for 91 000 and was completed in June 2008. It was also used for the 2022 Winter Olympics, too.  The stadium hosts sporting events. However, it does not have a team that uses it as their home stadium. Beijing Guo'an FC was going to play at the stadium, but they usually only draw about 10 000 spectators for games and thought it would be embarrassing to play in a venue that would only be 15% full.  Despite the lack of a home team, the stadium does host various international and national events and concerts. It also draws 20 000 to 30 000 people a day at 50 yuan (about CDN$9.25) to sightsee. It is a very profitable venue.

Zhejiang  浙江  is a province on the east coast of China. The capital city is Hangzhou. Almost 65 000 000 people called Zhejiang home.  This photo was taken at the Forbidden City  紫禁城  found in Beijing. The Forbidden City was the centre of the Imperial City of Beijing. It was constructed between 1406-1420. It served as the home of the Chinese emperors from 1420 to 1924. It became the political and ceremonial centre of the Chinese government. The Palace Museum has been in charge of the Forbidden City since 1925. The Museum has an extensive collection of artwork and artifacts that were build upon the imperial collections of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987. There are 980 buildings, with 9999 rooms and it covers 72 hectares. Since 2012, the Forbidden City have seen about 14 million visitors annually. In 2018, the Forbidden City's market value was estimated at $70 billion (USD). 

A political card from Beijing that features members of the Foreign Ministry. Officially called Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, it is a first ranked executive department of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Phew. This ministry is responsible for China's foreign relations. The man in the front is Wang Yi  王毅, and the gentleman to his right is Qin Gang  秦刚. I am assuming the others are high ranking officials in the ministry, too. 

Spring rolls, according to the writer are very crispy.. I like the shaped card and I loved the stamps she chose for me. 

What a great card from Chenxi. It looks to be a series of Chinese Traditional Architecture and this one is for ancient pagodas.  In early China, pagodas were square-based and circular-based, with octagonal-base tower emerging between the 5th -10th centuries. They are mainly for religious use. In the pagoda, there is often an altar and a series of staircases to visitors can enjoy the views from the top of the pagoda. Wooden pagodas are resistant to earthquakes, but are prone to fire, natural rot, and insects. In China three well known wooden pagodas are located in Luoyang and Xuzhou. Pagodas made of stone or brick are also common. The Porcelain Pagoda of Nanjing is probably the most famous of the brick and stone pagodas in China.
