3667 - Columbus, Ohio, United States of America

The sender sent me this hand-painted card. She is a teacher in Ohio.  Columbus is the capital and largest city in Ohio. Since I'm a hockey fan, let's talk about the Columbus Blue Jackets.  The Columbus Blue Jackets are the only professional sports team (from the four major North American leagues) in Columbus. They play in the National Hockey League and joined in 2000. Their name is inspired by Ohio's American Civil War history. They haven't been particularily successfull in their almost 25 year history in the National Hockey League. In fact, they are one of only two teams that have not been to a conference final in their history. The other team is the three year old Seattle Kraken.  Ohio does have history in the National Hockey League. For two years, the Cleveland Barons, formerly the California Golden Seals, moved to Ohio. For the 1978-79 season, Cleveland merged with the Minnesota North Stars, now Dallas Stars.

3553 - Espoo, Uusimaa, Finland

Beautiful sunset card on the beach. I don't know if this is of a lake or ocean in or around Finland, or a card the sender picked up while on vacation. I've written about Espoo before. Espoo is home to Kiekko-Espoo, a Finnish professional hockey club. The men's team plays in the Mestis, the second tier of men's professional hockey in Finland, while the women play in the Naisten Liiga, the highest league for women's professional hockey.  The men won the Mestis championship in 2022-23, finished third the year after. They have two retired numbers: Jere Lehtinen (#10) and Timo Hirvonen (#33).  Lehtinen went on the the National Hockey League and played with the Dallas Stars for 15 seasons. Hirvonen played a majority of his career with Kiekko-Espoo, including with the junior team.  The women's side has won 16 Naisten Liiga titles (Aurora Borealis Cup) since 1982.
