Ovelgönne is a municipality of 5500 people in northern Germany. It's origins date back to 1514 as a fortress (Oevelgünne). In 1583, Ovelgönne was given additional fortifications. Imperial soldiers were quartered here (1628-1631) during the Thirty Years War
