4408 - Schramberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

This is a photo of Saint Vitas Chapel located in Markgraflerland. Saint Vitas (c290-c303) was a Christian martyr from Sicily. He died during the Dioclentianic Persecution in 303. The Dioclentianic Persecution was the last and most severe persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire.

4358 - Konstanz, Baden-Württemberg , Germany

Konstanz, or Constance, is located at the western end of Upper Lake Constance in southern Germany.  Konstanz is the birthplace of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin (1838-1917), the constructor of the Zeppelin airships.  Zeppelin began developing the idea of a rigid airship in 1874 and developed it in detail by 1893. It was patented in Germany in 1895 and the United States in 1899. Zeppelins were first flown commercially in 1910 by Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-AG (DELAG), the world's first airline in revenue service. By 1914, DELAG carried over 10 000 fare-paying customers on over 1500 flights. They were put into service during World War I as bombers and as scouts. Zeppelins are credited with killing over 500 Britain citizens on numerous bombing raids over the United Kingdom.  Restrictions were placed on Zeppelin construction as a part of the Treaty of Versailles and not lifted until 1926. 4254 - Buchen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

A beautiful photograph of a harbour in Vorpommern on the North Sea.  Buchen is a town of 18 200 people in south central Germany. It has ancient roots dating back to Roman times. There was a frontier fortification known as Limes Germanicus built near Buchen and many stretches of the wall are still visible today. It was first mentioned in documents in 773 in the Lorscher Codex of the Lorsch Monastery.  Fastnacht (Shrove Tuesday Night) is an annual festival that attracts thousands a visitors a year. It has been held as long as anyone can remember. As part of the festival, it is compulsory to kiss the backside of the symbolic figure, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, the Buchen Blecker. 

4213 - Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Schwetzingen Palace is a schloss ( the  German term for a building similar to a  château ,  palace , or  manor house)  located in  Baden-Württemberg. It was the summer residence of the Electors Palatine Charles III Philip and Charles IV Theodor. It is notable for its spacious and ornate gardens. Featured on the card is the Hirschgruppe im Nebel (The Stag Fountain in the fog). 

4117 - Albbruck, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Albbruck is a small municipality of 7500 located on the High Rhine, which is also the national border with Switzerland. 

4099 - Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Heilbronn is a city of 130 000 people. It was an important trading centre during the late Middle Ages. At the start of the 1800s, it became one of the early centres for industrialization in Württemberg. Air raids during World War II almost completly destroyed Heilbronn's old town, but it was rebuilt in the 1950s. It has a thriving wine industry nicknamed  Käthchenstadt. In October 2025, it was named the European Green Capital for 2027 by the European Commission. To receive a European Green Capital Award, a city has to  have a consistent record of achieving high environment standards; is committed to ongoing and ambitious goals for further environmental improvement and sustainable development; and can act as a role model to inspire other cities and promote best practices to all other European cities. 

4079 - Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Stuttgart has become a widely cited case study in urban climatology for its use of ventilation corridors to mitigate the effects of heat and air pollution. Owing to its location in a basin surrounded by hills, the city is prone to stagnant air masses and elevated summer temperatures. To address these challenges, municipal planners developed a detailed Climate Atlas (Klimaanalyse) beginning in the late 20th century, which maps local wind patterns, cold-air drainage flows, and areas of heat accumulation. The atlas has informed zoning regulations that preserve open spaces and prohibit construction in designated corridors, allowing cooler night-time air from surrounding forests and vineyards to flow into the urban core. These corridors also function as green belts, providing ecological and recreational benefits in addition to climate regulation. 3989 - Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

A nice meetup card from Metzingen, located about 30 km south of Stuttgart. It is known internationally for its outlet stores of all kinds of famous companies, centred around Hugo Boss. The former textile section of the city has been transformed into Outlet City and is full of outlet stores. Tourists from all over come for the shopping experience. 

3984 - Munderkingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Munderkingen is a town of 5500 located on the Danube. Located here is the New Danube Bridge. It was built in 1893 and was the first massive concrete arch bridge. It has an arch span of 50m. Part of it was blown up by the retreating German Army in 1945, but was quickly rebuilt by 1948. 

3955 - Weil der Stadt, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Weil der Stadt is found about 30 km from Stuttgart, in the valley of the   River Würm, and it called the "Gate to the Black Forest" (sound ominous). It was first mentioned in 1075 as the property of the abbey of Hirsau.  Johannes Kepler (1571-1630), famous astronomer, was born here. Kepler, of course, is best known for his Laws of Planetary Motion, and his books Astronomia nova, Harmonice Mundi, and Epitome Astronomiae Copernicanae . He is considered one of the fathers of modern astronomy, the scientific method, natural sciene, and modern science. He has also been described as the "father of science fiction" for his novel Somnium.  In Somnium , an Icelandic boy and his witch mother learn of an island named Levania (the Moon). The novel details an imaginative description of how the Earth might look when viewe d from the Moon.  Because of Kepler, Weil der Stadt escaped destruction in World War II. 3934 - Rheinfelden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Rheinfelden is located on the German-Swiss border in south west Germany. It has a population of about 40 000 people and located on the right bank of the Rhine.  On the card the German is translated to "I can read your mind! You really should be ashamed of yourself!" :)

3925 - Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

A great Postcrossing meetup card from Stuttgart from 13 July 2024. Looks like there was about 20 people there, based on the number of signatures and rubber stamps. 

3903 - Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The sender is from Schwäbisch Gmünd, in southern Germany. The card is from their family holiday, in St. Peter-Ording, in northern Germany, an eight hour drive for them.  St. Peter-Ording is a popular seaside spa. It is the only German seaside resort with a sulphur spring. There is also a 12 kilometre long beach and a kilometre wide. 

3902 - Konstanz, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Konstanze is a university city with about 85 000 people located at the western end of Lake Constance. The German-Swiss border runs along the south western and southern edge of the city. The Swiss town of Kreuzlingen is right next to Konstanz. 

3743 - Markdorf, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Markdorf is a small community of 15 000 located in southern Germany, beneath the Gehrenberg Mountain. It was first mentioned in documents in 817, and was given city rights in 1250.  The card shows Markdorf on the shores of Lake Constance (Bodensee, in German). Lake Constance borders on Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

3739 - Offenburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Offenburg has ancient beginnings. Remains of a Roman settlement have been found within the city's boundaries. Offenburg was first mentioned in documents in 1148. In 1689, Offenburg was completly destroy, with the exception of two buildings, by the French during the Nine Years War.  Due to it proximity to France, it was one of the first cities to experience aerial bombardment during the First World War. Offenburg's railway sidings were the targets.  During the Second World War, Offenburg was the location of Heilag V-C, Oflag 55/V-D, and Stalag V-C prisoner-of-war camps for French, Polish, Belgian, Serbian, American, Soviet, Italian, Indian, and South African POWs.  Today it has a population of 62 000 people.  This photo is of Offenburg's city hall. It was founded in 1521, and enlarged in a baroque style in 1741. 

3708 - Pfaffenhofen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

This is an ad card for a financial institution. On the front the German translates to "it's time." The sender is part of a group called Familia English Group. He describes the group as a social instution for people who struggle with a variety of mental health issues. With social workers, the group participates in a lot of different activities and courses to learn new thins, which gives them a structured daily routine to work on getting back into society. One of the courses is English and participating in Postcrossing is a part of that. 

3397 - Rauenberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Rauenberg is a town situated about 15 km from Heidelberg. According the the sender, the town is famous for its old castle ruins. 

3271 - Obersontheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Obersontheim is a small town in southern Germany. There are about 5400 people living there. The writer is a mum writing on behalf of her son.  The card is a cute one from Ikea. I remember a few years back when Ikea in Canada was selling postcards. I bought a bunch of them and still have some ready to be mailed out. 

3265 - Amtzell, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Amtzell is a small community of about 4300 people found in the very south of Germany. The card is a beer advertisement, with a little boy on it(?).  Allgäuer Brewery has been around since 1911 and was founded by the Weixler family. Today it is owned by the Radeberger Group and offers about 20 different beers.
