The University of Bologna was founded in 1088 and is the oldest university in continuous operation in the world. It was also the first to offer a degree from an institution of higher learning. Today it boasts over 90 000 students and is one of the largest universities in Europe. It also has campuses in four other Italian cities, with overseas campuses in Buenos Aires, New York, Brussels, and Shanghai.
