Lahti is home to the Lahti Pelicans, who play in the Liiga, Finland's top professional hockey league. The Pelicans were established in 1996 and play in Isku Areena. Pasi Nurminen, a former Finnish National Hockey League players is one of the owners. Valtteri Bottas, a Formula One driver, is another owner.  Lahti has not had a lot of success in Liiga and haven't made it to the Kanada-malja yet (playoff finals). There are currently two Canadians on the team. Wyatt Kalynuk, from Brandon, Manitoba, and Josh Lawrence from Fredericton, New Brunswick.
