A wonderful reproduction of a vintage carnival poster from 1931 - Finale Ligure. The sender is a teacher of Italian and Latin in Genoa. Genoe, or Genova (Italian), or  Zêna (Ligurian), is the capital city of the region of Liguria. About 560 000 people called Genoa their home. It has historically been an important port on the Mediterranean. For about seven centuries (11 century to 1797) Genoa was its own republic - one of the famous Italian city-states. Because of the importance of the port, it became one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Genoa was the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, Guglielmo Embriaco, Andrea Doria,   Niccolò Paganini ,  Giuseppe Mazzini ,  Renzo Piano  and  Grimaldo Canella .
