Ingolstadt is an ancient city in Bavaria with about 140 000 residents, and about half a million in the metropolitan area. It was first mentioned in a document of Charlemagne on 6 February 806 as Ingoldes stat, or the place of Ingold. Like most ancient cities in Germany, Ingolstadt changed hands with a variety of Duchys.  Mary Shelley's novel, Frankenstein , was set at the I ngolstädter Alte Anatomie (Old Anatomy Building). Today it is a museum of medical history. ERC Ingolstadt, founded in 1964, plays in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. They won the league championship in 2014. They went in as a ninth seed.
