A great souvenir card from his travels to Hawaii, no doubt. The sender hails from Norfolk, a city of 240 000 people. It is home to Naval Station Norfolk, the world's largest naval base.  Naval Station Norfolk was established in 1917. Upon entering World War I, the base expanded quite quickly. During World War II, the base expanded again and included new runways for aircraft.  The following operational units are headquartered or homeported at Naval Station Norfolk: Carrier Strike Groups Two, Eight, Ten, Twelve Destroyer Squadrons 2, 22, 26, 28 Aircraft Carriers 69, 75, 77, 76 Cruiser 64 Amphibious Assault 1, 3, 5, 7, 17, 19, 21, 24, 28 Guided Missile Destroyers 55, 57, 58, 66, 67, 71, 72, 74, 76, 94, 95, 96, 98, 103, 107 Military Sealift Command AH-20, AKE-1, AO-195, AO-196, AO-201, AO-203, AOE-6, AOE-8, ARC-7, AOE-208, ESB-7 Submarines 752, 778, 779, 793, 804, 762, 764, 765, 785, 794, 796, 798, 800, 802

Chesapeake By is the largest estuary in the United States. More than 150 major rivers and streams flow into the bay's 167 000 square kilometre drainage basin. Along with Norfolk, Baltimore is another major city on the bay. Washington, DC, is also close by. As the photo suggests, seafood comes from the bay in the form of crabs, oysters, and other shell fish.
