Judy is from Davis, California, but sent me a tourist card from Times Square in New York City. Must have been from one of her travels. Davis is known for two things: the University of California, Davis, and for being one of the most bike friendly cities in the United States. Davis has a population of 66 850 people but doesn't include the on-campus student population which was over 9400 people. There are almost 39 000 people enrolled at the university. The university is also Davis' largest employer with 28 411 people working there. The next largest employer is the Davis Joint Unified School District which employs 972 people. Cycling has been a popular mode of transportation in Davis for decades and has been a political issue as early as the 1960s. I pro-bike majority was elected to city council in 1966 and began to implement a variety of bike friendly rules.
