4524 - Bunbury, Western Australia, Australia

This postcard features a galah, one of Australia's most familiar and unmistakable birds. With their soft pink breasts, pale grey wings, and cheerful personalities, galahs are among the country's most recognisable parrots. They are found across most of mainland Australia, where they gather in noisy flocks and are often seen feeding on the ground in parks, farmland, and open grasslands. Despite their beauty, galahs have a reputation for being playful and mischievous. In Australian slang, calling someone a "galah" can mean they're acting a bit silly or foolish, a reference to the birds' lively and sometimes comical behaviour. Fortunately for the birds, this affectionate teasing has done nothing to diminish their popularity. Galahs mate for life, and it is common to see them in pairs, preening each other's feathers or sitting side by side on a tree branch. Their strong pair bonds make them a favourite subject for wildlife photographers and artists alike. I alw...

4523 - Ocean Park, Washington, United States

This postcard arrived with Happy New Year wishes from Ocean Park, a small hamlet of around 1,800 people on the Long Beach Peninsula in western Washington State. Although it is a quiet coastal community today, Ocean Park has an interesting past that reflects the history of the peninsula. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Ocean Park was a stop on the Ilwaco Railway and Navigation Company, a narrow-gauge railroad that operated along the Long Beach Peninsula from 1889 until 1930. The railway connected the small communities scattered along the coast, carrying passengers, freight, and holidaymakers to the peninsula's beaches. While the tracks have long since disappeared, the railway played an important role in the development of the area and remains an important part of its local history. Today, Ocean Park is known for its relaxed pace of life, sa ndy beaches, and easy access to the Pacific Ocean. It's the kind of place where people come to enjoy nature, whether t...

4522 - Telford, England, United Kingdom

This postcard features a delightful scene titled "Marooned at Five Acre" by Rowland Emett. At first glance, it looks like an ordinary countryside illustration, but the longer you look, the more charming details begin to emerge. Emett's work is full of gentle humour and imaginative touches that invite you to linger over every corner of the picture. I was curious about the artist, so I did a little reading. Rowland Emett (1906–1990) was an English cartoonist and the creator of whimsical kinetic sculptures. His fantastical machines, often built from gears, wheels, and unlikely contraptions, seemed to celebrate ingenuity for its own sake rather than practicality. They became so popular that he was commissioned to create moving sculptures for exhibitions and public spaces, and some of his wonderfully eccentric creations can still be seen today. Knowing a little about Emett makes this postcard even more enjoyable. The illustration captures the same playful spirit that made his ...

4521 - Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

This is a portrait of Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter. It was painted by Atelierschulze (that's what written on the card).  This postcard comes from Düren, a city in western Germany with a history stretching back more than two thousand years. Long before the Romans arrived, the region was home to the Eburones, a Celtic tribe that lived between the Meuse and Rhine rivers. They are perhaps best known for their leader, Ambiorix, who led a successful revolt against Julius Caesar's Roman legions in 54 BC. Following the Roman conquest, Düren developed as a settlement along an important Roman road linking Cologne with the city of Tongeren in present-day Belgium. Its location helped it grow into a centre for trade and travel, laying the foundations for the city that exists today. Over the centuries, Düren became known for its paper and textile industries, taking advantage of the clean water provided by the River Rur. Although much of the city was destroyed during the Second Wor...

4520 - Perth, Ontario, Canada

This postcard was sent by someone originally from Perth, Ontario, but it was mailed from Kingston, Ontario, not too far away in distance, but distinct in character. Perth is a small historic town in eastern Ontario, known for its well-preserved stone buildings, heritage architecture, and quiet riverside setting. It has a slower pace of life, with a strong sense of local history and a compact, community-focused feel. It’s the kind of place where old mills, small shops, and tree-lined streets give the town a timeless quality. Kingston, where the postcard was posted, sits on the shore of Lake Ontario at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. It has a much larger, more energetic atmosphere, shaped by its history as a former capital of the Province of Canada and its present-day role as a university and naval city. Limestone buildings, a busy waterfront, and the presence of institutions like Queen’s University give it a more urban and historic character compared to Perth. What I like about thi...

4519 - Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States

This postcard comes from somewhere just outside Colorado Springs, in the United States, but the sender’s home sounds far removed from the city itself. They describe living in a remote cabin about a half-hour drive from Colorado Springs, high up in the mountains at an elevation of 2790 metres. At that altitude, life takes on a very different rhythm. The sender mentions they experience what feels like nearly nine months of winter each year, which is not surprising given the height and the mountain climate. Snow can linger well into spring, and early autumn likely brings the first reminders that winter is never far away. It’s easy to imagine long, cold seasons, crisp air, and heavy snowfall shaping everyday life. Colorado Springs itself sits at the base of the Rocky Mountains, but places like this cabin are part of a much more rugged and isolated landscape. The nearby peaks and forests create a sense of quiet separation from the city below, where weather, wildlife, and terrain still play ...

4518 - Kraków, Poland

The sender sent this card on New Years Day 2026. He said he bought the card while on vacation in Portugal. He is from Kraków. Perched on the hill are the magnificent Wawel Royal Castle and Wawel Cathedral. For centuries, the castle was the residence of Polish kings, while the cathedral served as the site of royal coronations, weddings, and burials. Many of Poland's monarchs, national heroes, poets, and political leaders are buried there, making it one of the country's most important national monuments. Wawel Hill is also closely linked to one of Poland's best-known legends: the tale of the Wawel Dragon. According to the story, a fearsome dragon lived in a cave beneath the hill until a clever shoemaker defeated it by feeding it a sheep stuffed with sulphur. Today, visitors can explore the Dragon's Den, and a dragon statue outside the cave even breathes fire every few minutes.

4517 - Taoyuan City, Taiwan

Bade District (八德區) is one of the districts of Taoyuan City in northwestern Taiwan. Although it isn't as well known to international visitors as Taipei or nearby Taoyuan International Airport, Bade has grown rapidly from a rural settlement into a busy suburban district with a population of over 200,000 people. The area's history goes back to the Qing Dynasty, when it was known as Bakuaicuo, meaning "Eight Houses." According to local tradition, the name came from the first eight families who settled there. After World War II, the name was changed to Bade, meaning "Eight Virtues," referring to the Confucian virtues of loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, love, trustworthiness, justice, harmony, and peace. It became part of Taoyuan City in 2014 when Taoyuan was upgraded to a special municipality. Today, Bade is known as a residential and manufacturing district, with good transport links to the rest of northern Taiwan. Despite its urban growth, it still has green...

4516 - Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany

One of the joys of collecting postcards is discovering the stories behind both the image and the message. This postcard is especially memorable because of the sender's wonderful sense of humour. She writes that her son lives about eight hours away by car, making family visits quite an undertaking. With a smile, she jokes that the lady pictured on the postcard is exactly what she looks like whenever she goes to visit him. It is a charming comment that instantly brings the illustration to life and gives the postcard a personal touch. The artwork is by Gerhard Haderer, one of Austria's best-known cartoonists and satirical illustrators. Haderer has earned an international reputation for his detailed drawings, sharp wit, and keen observations of everyday life. His cartoons often poke gentle fun at human behaviour while encouraging us to laugh at ourselves, making his work both entertaining and thought-provoking. One of Haderer's greatest strengths is his ability to capture famil...

4515 - Satteins, Vorarlberg, Austria

Today's postcard comes from Satteins, a small Austrian town of around 2,700 residents in the western state of Vorarlberg. Nestled in the Rhine Valley, Satteins lies close to both the German and Swiss borders, making it part of a region where three countries meet within a short distance of one another. One detail that caught my attention was the sender's note that she works as a prison officer. It is not a profession that appears often in postcards, and it prompted me to learn a little about Austria's correctional system. Although I do not know where she works, one of the principal correctional facilities in the region is Prison Feldkirch. Prison Feldkirch traces its origins to the nineteenth century, when it was established as a regional justice centre. From the outside, the complex still reflects the architectural style of that period, while the interior has been modernised to meet contemporary Austrian correctional standards. Located in Vorarlberg on the banks of the Ill ...

4514 - Minsk, Belarus

Today's postcard features the Minsk Automobile Plant, better known as MAZ, one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in Eastern Europe. MAZ was founded in 1944 in Minsk, Belarus, during the final years of the Second World War as part of the Soviet Union's post-war industrial development. Just a few years later, in 1949, the company produced its first vehicle, the MAZ-200, a heavy-duty diesel truck. Powered by a two-stroke diesel engine based on a General Motors design, the MAZ-200 became a familiar sight throughout the Soviet Union and played an important role in rebuilding the country's infrastructure after the war. Over the decades, MAZ expanded its range of vehicles and became known for producing reliable heavy-duty trucks designed to operate in demanding conditions. Today, the company manufactures a wide variety of commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses, trolleybuses, road tractors, semi-trailers, and mobile cranes. Many of its vehicles continue to be used for cons...

4513 - Barrington, Rhode Island, United States

One of the things I enjoy most about receiving postcards is learning about the lives of the people who send them. On this card, the sender mentions that Thanksgiving is just a week away and that she is looking forward to the holiday and a welcome break from school. Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in only a handful of countries, including the United States, Canada, Saint Lucia, and Liberia. Although each country has developed its own traditions, the holiday originally began as a time to give thanks for the harvest and for the blessings of the previous year. Similar harvest festivals can be found in many cultures around the world, reflecting a shared appreciation for a successful growing season and the importance of community. The roots of Thanksgiving are both religious and cultural. Early celebrations often included prayers of gratitude and communal feasts, but over the centuries the holiday has evolved into a largely secular occasion centred on family, friendship, and sharing a m...

4512 - Meppen, Lower Saxony, Germany

Today's postcard takes me to the historic town of Meppen in northwestern Germany, a community with a history stretching back well over a thousand years. Meppen was first mentioned in written records in 834, when Emperor Louis the Pious recorded the transfer of a missionary to the Abbey of Corvey. Over the centuries, the town developed into an important regional centre thanks to its strategic location at the confluence of the Ems, Hase, and Nordradde rivers. While reading about Meppen's history, I was interested to discover a Canadian connection. During the closing weeks of the Second World War in Europe, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Princess Louise's (Canada) crossed the Ems River on 8 April 1945 and captured the town as the Allied forces advanced through northwestern Germany. It is a reminder of the role Canadian soldiers played in the liberation of many towns across Europe. Today, Meppen offers visitors plenty to explore. Its historic centre features centuries...

4511 - Baltimore, Maryland, United States

The sender recently adopted two black kittens named Nanii and Hai.

4510 - Taipei, Taiwan

The postcard I received today is part of a set issued by Taiwan Post depicting different sports. According to the sender, rock climbing is not especially popular in Taiwan, making its inclusion in the series seem a little surprising. Taiwan didn't have any athletes participating in the climbing events.  I wonder if the choice was influenced by the Olympic Games. Sport climbing made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and returned for its second appearance at the Paris Olympics in 2024. As the sport continues to grow internationally, it makes sense that postal administrations would feature it as part of a collection celebrating modern sports. The Paris Olympics featured four medal events in sport climbing: men's and women's speed climbing, and men's and women's combined boulder and lead climbing. In the combined events, Toby Roberts of Great Britain claimed the men's gold medal, while Janja Garnbret of Slovenia successfully defended her Olympic title in ...

4509 - Seoul, South Korea

A great "Year of the Horse" Postcrossing card. It reminded me of that song that was popular last year called Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan.

4508 - Las Vegas, Nevada, United States

This card shows a gondola and gondolier at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Venetian was one of my favourite casinos to visit when I was in Las Vegas. It is ornate inside and out. There was an area inside that felt like you were on an Venetian street. We didn't ride the gondola but maybe next time.  The sender lives in Las Vegas. I remember asking someone I played Scrabble with online who lived in Las Vegas how can you live in Las Vegas? I said I could imagine there are a lot of distractions. She responded that most locals don't go to the Las Vegas Strip and there is a lot to do in Las Vegas that has nothing to do with gambling or high end entertainment.

4507 - Cranston, Rhode Island, United States

Today's postcard features the cover of the vintage Ladybird book Flight Three U.S.A.: A Ladybird Book of Travel Adventure . For anyone who grew up with Ladybird books, this postcard is a delightful reminder of the colourful illustrations and educational stories that introduced generations of children to the wider world. Published as part of the Travel Adventure series, Flight Three U.S.A. invited young readers to embark on an exciting journey across the United States. Through vivid illustrations and engaging storytelling, the book explored famous cities, landmarks, landscapes, and the thrill of travelling by air. At a time when international travel was still a rare experience for many families, books like this allowed children to discover distant places from the comfort of their own homes. Ladybird Books became a fixture of childhood in Britain and many Commonwealth countries during the second half of the twentieth century. Known for their distinctive format, affordable price, an...

4506 - Munich, Bavaria, Germany

The postcard I am sharing today features the great tit, one of Europe's most familiar and colourful songbirds. Despite its amusing English name, the great tit ( Parus major ) is a remarkable little bird known for its intelligence, adaptability, and cheerful song. The great tit is the largest member of the tit family and can be found across Europe, much of Asia, and parts of North Africa. It is easy to recognize by its bright yellow breast, which is divided by a bold black stripe, its glossy black head with striking white cheeks, and its olive-green back. Males generally have a broader black stripe than females, making them slightly easier to identify. Although small, the great tit has a bold personality. It thrives in woodlands, parks, gardens, and even busy urban areas, happily taking advantage of bird feeders during the colder months. Its varied diet includes insects, spiders, seeds, berries, and nuts, making it an important part of the ecosystem by helping to control insect popu...

4505 - Mariehamm, Åland

A great Postcrossing Meet-Up card from  Åland and Finnish postcards sailing between the two countries. Mariehamm is the capital of  Åland and  Åland is an autonomous region of Finland. There are about 12 000 people that called Mariehamm home.  Åland is a popular summer destination and receives about 1.5 million visitors each year.

4504 - Gwangju, South Korea

A beautiful postcard from a new Postcrosser (2025) that depicts the first snowfall in Seoul. The sender is from Gwangju, a city of almost 1.5 million people. It has ancient roots dating back to 57 BCE, when it was one of the administrative centres of the Baekje Kingdom during Korea's Three Kingdoms period. The sender noticed that I enjoy soccer (football) and wrote about his favourite Korean player, Lee Kang-in (이강인), who has played for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) since 2023. As of 2026, he has made 79 league appearances for PSG, scoring 12 goals. Across all competitions, he has made more than 120 appearances and scored 16 goals. Before moving to France, Lee played in Spain's La Liga. He first appeared in 26 matches for Valencia B before earning promotion to Valencia's first team, where he made 44 league appearances and scored two goals. In 2021, he transferred to Mallorca, making 66 league appearances and scoring seven goals. In 2023, PSG, who play in Ligue 1, signed Lee to ...

4503 - Dusseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

I was so excited to receive this postcard. It comes from Portugal, where the sender used to live, and it is made of cork instead of paper. The image on the front is the Galo de Barcelos , or the Rooster of Barcelos. The Rooster of Barcelos is a Portuguese folk tale that tells the story of a dead rooster's miraculous intervention in proving the innocence of a man who had been falsely convicted and sentenced to death. According to the legend, a landowner in Barcelos had silver stolen from his property, and the townspeople were searching for the thief. A man from Galicia became a suspect despite his pleas of innocence. The Galician insisted that he was merely passing through Barcelos on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela to fulfil a promise. Despite this, he was arrested and condemned to death. After being sentenced, the man asked to be taken before the judge who had condemned him. The judge was attending a banquet. The man pointed to a roasted rooster on the banquet table and dec...

4502 - Locarno, Ticino, Switzerland

This is a typical tourist-type card that shows various places in the canton of Ticino. Locarno is located on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore and is also the capital city of the canton. There are about 16 000 people that call Locarno home. Also featured on the card are Ascona, Valle Verzasca, Lugano, Ronco's/Ascona, Bellinzona, and Morcote.

4501 - Assen, Drenthe, Netherlands

This is a card that shows an aaierbal, or egg ball. The sender says that they are "a typical snack from the north of the Netherlands. They're a hard boiled egg cooked in a thick spicy vagous(?), breaded, and then fried." She says her husband enjoys them at football games.

4500 - Rheinberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

This is a tourist postcard from Norderney. Norderney is one of the seven inhabited East Frisian Islands in the North Sea, off the coast of northern Germany. The island is approximately 14 km long and 2.5 km wide, and about 5,900 people call it home. Much of Norderney is part of the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park. Access to some areas of the park is restricted and divided into zones to help protect wildlife and sensitive habitats. Car traffic on the island is also strictly regulated. Along the island's northern coast is a 14-kilometre-long sandy beach.

4499 - Ried, Bavaria, Germany

Ried is a small municipality located in southern Germany near the Austrian border. There are about 3234 people that call Ried home.

4498 - Moscow, Russia

On the front of this card reads, When I wake up in the morning, you are all I see; When I think about you, and how happy you make me. You're everything I need. I look at you and know, that you are all to me. The card is an old map of Japan.
