Murcia is a city of 460 000 people located in south east Spain in the autonomous community of the Region of Murcia. People have been in the area since prehistoric times. The name of Murcia is believed to derive from the Latin word Myrtea, meaning the land of the myrtle, or Murtia, which was a common Roman name.
