Broken Hill is an inland mining city in the far west of the New South Wales outback. The discover of silver ore lead to the opening of various mines, which back Broken Hill prosperous up to the 1990s. The economy of Broken Hill experienced a slowdown in the late 1900s and early 2000s. It was added to the National Heritage List in 2015 and is still Australia's longest running mining town.The 53 Mega Watts Broken Hill Solar Plant was completed in 2015 and is one of the largest solar power farms in the Southern Hemisphere. The Australian and New South Wales government largely funded the building of the plant in order to move away from coal generated power.
