Neunkirchen is one of the oldest settlements in the Vienna Basin. It has been permanently settled since the
La Tène Culture - an Iron Age culture - until the Romans came around 450 BCE. A Roman settlement was also on the site from about 30 CE to 400 CE, but what it was called is unknown. The first mention of Neunkirchen was in 1094.
