I have received another postcard depicting a state capital. I think its the third or fourth one I've received. This one shows the West Virginia State Capitol Building lit up at night with fireworks going off. It's a beautiful photo.
Michelle is from Madison, which she says is just south of West Virginia's capitol city of Charleston. Madison is a former coal town and has a population of just over 3000 people. Madison's nickname is "The Gateway to the Coal Fields."
West Virginia's State Capitol Building was dedicated in 1932 and had a final cost of $10 million. It is the sixth building to house the West Virginia government. The height of the dome is 89 m, and the diameter is 23 m. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
