2507 - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

What an interesting card and interesting person. Hans and his family are members of the Salt River Pima tribe in Arizona. Hans' father is German and Hans was born in Gdansk. He came to the United States in 1968. I am assuming maybe the mother was in the military, or she was in Europe during a gap year - all speculative.

The Salt River Pima community is made up of two distinct Indigenous groups - the Pima (Akimel O'odham) and the Maricopa (Piipaash) - most originally belonged to the Halchidhoma (Xalchidom) tribe. President Rutherford B. Hayes created the Salt River Community on 14 June 1879. The community holds 217 square kilometres - just over 35% of it remains a natural reserve.

Two community owned casinos operate on the community reserve. In February 2011, they opened a Major League Baseball spring training facility, a first on Indigenous land in the United States. It is the spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies.

The Great Seal of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community is a representation of I'itoi. An I'itoi is believed to be a mischievous creator god who resides in a cave below the peak of Boboquivari Mountain, a sacred place. I'itoi is responsible for
a series of commandments guiding people to remain in balance with the world and interact with it as intended. Visitors to the cave are asked to bring a gift to ensure their safe return from its depths.

It features artifacts, stories, and the history of organized crime in the United States, but also the actions and initiatives by law enforcement to prevent such crimes.  The museum is found at the former Las Vegas Post Office and Courthouse, which was built in 1933.  The quote on this card was from John Gotti. John Gotti (1940-2002) was the mafioso and boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. After ordering the killing of Gambino boss Paul Catellano in 1985, he took over the family and led what was the United States' most powerful crime syndicate. He was known as The Teflon Don  after three high profile trials in the 1980s resulted in acquittals. Later it was revealed that the trials had been tainted by jury tampering, juror misconduct, and...
