Kazhikode, or Calicut as it is known in English, is a city along the west coast of India. It has a population of 610 000 people, and 2 million in its metropolitan area.
The postcard shows Indian rhinoceros. I didn't know there were rhinoceros outside of Africa. Apparently there are three species of Asian rhinos.
Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) is native to the Indian subcontinent. It is list as "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List. There are an estimated 3588 individuals in the world, and Kaziranga National Park has about 2048 of those. Poaching remains a problem as their horns are wanted for their ivory.
