3266 - Kirkkonummi, Uusimaa, Finland

Jani Hakanpää hails from Kirkkonummi. He is a player for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League. Previous NHL stops include Anaheim and Carolina, and he also took a couple of years off from the NHL to play for Oulun Kärpät  of the Liiga.

In 2017-18,  Hakanpää helped Oulun Kärpät win the
Kanada-malja as the Liiga champions. I hadn't heard of the Kanada-milja before so I was intrigued.

Kanada-malja means "Canada Bowl." It was donated by Canada's Finnish community in 1951 to be awarded to the champion of the Liiga playoffs. Like the NHL's Stanley Cup, the winning players and staff get their names added to the trophy. The current champion is Tappara.

In 1991 a copy of the Kanada-malja was created with the original trophy kept and displayed at Suomen Jääkiekkomuseo, or the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame. The original cup is always presented to the champions, but then is returned to the Suomen Jääkiekkomuseo and a the copy is given to the team for the year.

John Gotti (1940-2002) was the mafioso and boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. After ordering the killing of Gambino boss Paul Catellano in 1985, he took over the family and led what was the United States' most powerful crime syndicate. He was known as The Teflon Don  after three high profile trials in the 1980s resulted in acquittals. Later it was revealed that the trials had been tainted by jury tampering, juror misconduct, and...
