3560 - Naruto, Tokushima, Japan

Cute card from a university student in Japan. They want to be a junior high history teacher. Best job ever!

Naruto 鳴門市 is found on Shikoku island and has a population of 55 000 people - small when one thinks of the Japanese mega-cities. The Naruto University of Education 鳴門教育大学 is found here. Perhaps that is where the sender is studying to become a history teacher!

Naruto is home to the Tokushima Indigo Socks 徳島インディゴソックス, who play in the Shikoku Island League Plus. It is an independent professional baseball league of four teams found on Shikoku. The league was founded in 2005 by for Nippon Professional Baseball star Hiromichi Ishige.

In 2015, an all-star team of Shikoku Island League traveled to North America and played every team in the Can-Am League in North America. The all-stars went 6 wins against 10 losses. They did it again in 2016 and finished at 8 wins to 12 losses.

The league has four teams - the Ehime Mandarin Pirates, the Kagawa Olive Guyners, the Kōchi Fighting Dogs, and the Indigo Socks. There are also three defunct teams - Fukuoka Red Warblers, the Mie Three Arrows, and the Nagasaki Saints.

The Olive Guyners have won the most league championships with seven, while the Indigo Socks are second with six. The last time the Indigo Socks took the league championships was in 2017. Technically they were also the league champions in 2020. They were in first place, but the playoffs were cancelled due to COVID-19.

The Mob Museum, officially known as the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, is located in downtown Las Vegas. It open in 2012. It features artifacts, stories, and the history of organized crime in the United States, but also the actions and initiatives by law enforcement to prevent such crimes.  The museum is found at the former Las Vegas Post Office and Courthouse, which was built in 1933.  The quote on this card was from John Gotti. John Gotti (1940-2002) was the mafioso and boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. After ordering the killing of Gambino boss Paul Catellano in 1985, he took over the family and led what was the United States' most powerful crime syndicate. He was known as The Teflon Don  after three high profile trials in the 1980s resulted in acquittals. Later it was revealed that the trials had been tainted by jury tampering, juror misconduct, and...

Keita is a junior high science teacher in Iwate  岩手町. He sent me a photo of the Tokyo Sky Tower during a fireworks display. The Tokyo Sky Tower is a broadcasting and observation tower in Simide, a special ward in the Tokyo Metropolis. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010. In 2011, when it was completed at a height of 634 meters, it became the tallest tower in the world, and the second tallest structure in the world, after Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE.
