Great photo of the Oberbaum Bridge (Oberbaumbrücke). It spans the River Spree and is considered a city landmark. It is a double-decker and links Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. Both of these boroughs were seperated by the Berlin Wall so the bridge is also an important symbol of unity.
The top of the bridge has rail lines, while the bottom part is a roadway. The bridge as it is was built in 1896 after two years of construction. The two towers of the bridge were inspired by the Middle Gate Tower in Prenzlau. They are cosmetic only and serve as a reminder that the site was once Berlin's river gateway.

When the bridge acted as a border between the East and West, it was used as a place to swap spies or prisoners (in fiction).
