Veenendaal is located in central Netherlands and has a population of about 69 000 people. It was founded in the mid 1500s as a peat colony. Veen is the Dutch word for fed and daal is Dale.
Veenendaal as adapted to cycling and has a vast network on cycling paths which makes it very convenient for people to get around. Twice - in 2000 and 2020 - Veenendaal was chosen as Fietsstad of the Year - an award that recognizes the top city for cycling in the Netherlands.
