Thornton is a small, unincorporated place near Barrie, Ontario, and about 75 km north or Toronto. There are almost 1000 people living here. Originally it was named Henrysville, or Henry's Corners, an early settler and the first teacher. Due to confusion at the postal level, it was changed to Thornton in 1854, named after Henry Thornton, who owned a grist mill, saw mill, and planning mill.
