These beckoning cats are found in Gotoku-ji 護国寺, a Shingon Buddhist Temple in Tokyo's
Bunkyō. The temple was established by Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the 5th shōgun, and completed in 1681. It is notable for surviving the American air raids during World War II, whilte most other historical sites in Tokyo were turned in rubble.

Beckoning cats, it is believed, bring good luck to it's owner.
