Its always interesting to look at the rosters of European teams to see how many Canadians and ex-National Hockey Leaguers found a second life in Germany. Munich is no exception with six Canadians playing, as well as three Americans. Keith Aulie played 167 games in the NHL and garnered 14 points for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Edmonton Oilers and was drafted by Calgary Flames.
Andrew Ebbett has 224 NHL games under his belt with 71 points. He played with Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild, Phoenix Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also played for SC Bern in the Swiss League before signing with Munich. He plans to retire at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Andrew MacWilliam was drafted by and played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played 12 games for the Leafs and recorded 2 assists.
Trevor Parkes went un-drafted but signed an entry level deal with the Detroit Red Wings. He's been playing in Munich for three seasons.
Derek Roy has a lengthy NHL resume playing 738 games and earning 524 points with six NHL clubs - Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, and the Edmonton Oilers. He's also spent time in the Swiss League with SC Bern, the Kontinental League with Avangard Omsk and Traktor Chelyabinsk, Swedish Hockey League with Linkopings, and is in his second season with Munich.
Mark Voakes played for the Wilfrid Laurier University. He was signed by the Rochester Americans. Munich is his third team in the DSL, after stints with Krefeld Pinguine and Grizzlys Wolfsburg.
One of the American players is Chris Bourque, who is the son of Boston Bruin great Ray Bourque. The Washington Capitals drafted Bourque 33rd overall. In all he netted 8 points with Washington, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Boston Bruins. He also spent time in the KHL with Atlant Moscow Oblast and Ak Bars Kazan, the Swiss League with HC Lugano, and is now in his second season with Munich.
Another interesting player I found was Yannic Seidenberg who play with the local junior team in my city - Medicine Hat Tigers. He had a great years with the Tigers scoring 66 points in 67 games. The Tigers that year also had a great run in the playoffs, earning a spot in the Memorial Cup. The Tigers went 1-2 in the round robin, but lost to Gatineau in the semi-final. Seidenberg had 5 points in the tournament, and had 19 points in the WHL playoffs. He was never drafted in the NHL and returned to Germany to play for Kölner Haie, ERC Ingolstadt, Adler Mannheim, and for EHC München the last eight seasons. He has 831 points in 872 career games in the DHL. He has also played 25 international games for Germany as a U-20, and 78 international games as a senior player.
