Düsseldorf is the capital city and largest city of North Rhine-Westphalia with a population of 618 000. It is found at the confluence of the Rhine and of the Düssel. It has become a telecommunications centre in Germany with two of the four big German providers of mobile services found here.
Düsseldorf EG plays in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) and plays at the ISS Dome, which opened in 2006 and can seat 13 400 for hockey. Düsseldorf EG were founded in 1935 and have been the German champions 8 times, the last time in 1996. Three Canadians are a part of the Düsseldorf EG roster - Kyle Cumiskey (Abbotsford) who has played with Colorado Avalanche and the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (he won the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2015), Modo and Skellefteå AIK of the Swedish Elite League, and with Düsseldorf EG since 2020.
