3608 - Hanau, Hesse, Germany

The sender is from Hanau, a city of 102 000 people and is a part of the Frankfurt Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region. The railway station is a major junction and their is a port of the river Main. Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm - the Brothers Grimm - were born here. They, of course, are well known folklorests. They popularized stories such as Cinderella, The Frog Prince, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin , and Snow White . Their first collection of folk tales, Children's and Household Tales   was published in 1812. Most of these stories have had the cruelty and violent taken out, not known to many people now as the Walt Disney Company has taken many of them and "Disneyfied" them so that children could watch them.

3607 - Portland, Oregon, United States of America

I'm catching up to my backlog. This one was sent in November 2023. The sender is from Portland, Oregon, and her card is an inspirational one.  Portland was named after Portland, Maine, which was named after the Isle of Portland. The Isle of Portland is 5 km south of Weymouth, England. The island is only 6 km by 2.7 km and has a population of 13 500 people. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a part of the Jurassic Coast. Portland Stone, a limestone, has been used in British and world architecture. St. Paul's Cathedral and the United Nations Headquarters used Portland Stone.  Portland Harbour is one of the largest man-man harbours in the world. Stone breakwaters were put into place between 1848 to 1905. A Royal Navy base was established. Royal Navy and NATO ships exercised here until 1995.

3606 - Chongqing, China

A wonderful card with a photo of a bronze wine vessel from the Warring States period in Chinese history. This period of Chinese history took place between 475 BCE to about 221 BCE. During the period the State of Qin annexed each of the other contender states by 221 BCE and started the Qin Dynasty. The 800 year Zhou Dynasty came to an end during this period (256 BCE).

3605 - Columbus, Ohio, United States of America

The sender is from Columbus and has sent one of those great vintage travel posters. This one happens to be for Canadian Pacific for a Great Lakes cruise (5 carefree days for $40 & up).

3604 - Asahikawa, Kamikawa, Japan

It's always great to get a card from Japan that isn't from Tokyo (not that I don't like cards from Tokyo, it just seems like most of the cards come from there). I'm afraid the card is lost at the moment. I guess when you get a year and a half, and 250 cards behind on one's blog, it might happen. Hopefully it will still turn up. Asahikawa  旭川市  is found on Hokkaido  北海道 , which is the large island in Japan's north. The city has a population of about 320 000 people. It belongs to UNESCO's Network of Creative Cities as a Design City in 2019. The Creative Cities Network was launched in 2004 by UNESCO to promote cooperation among cities which have recognized culture and creativity as strategic drivers of sustainable urban development. As of 2022, there are almost 300 cities on the list, from 90 countries.

3603 - Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America

This card is a bit of a mind f*ck. A field full of fluffy, white sheep and a sky of fluffy, white clouds. It's pretty cool. The sender is from Boston. I hope she isn't a Bruins supporter. I hate, hate, hate the Boston Bruins.

3602 - Sortavala, Karelia, Russia

3601 - Koprivnica, Croatia

Koprivnica is the capital city of  Koprivnica- Križevci County and located about 70 kilometers northeast of Zagreb. There are about 24 000 people in the city, with almost 31 000 in the "metropolitan" area.  The card has a reproduction of Gustav Klimpt's (1862-1918) The Kiss.   The Kiss  is an oil-on-canvas painting with added gold leaf, silver, and platinum. It was painted between 1907 - 08. This was the height of Klimpt's Golden Period. Today is is found at the   Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna. Many consider this piece Klimpt's most important work.

3600 - Quincy, Massachusetts, United States of America

Another great photograph, this time of Jefferson Market Court in Manhattan. It was taken by Berenice Abbott (1898-1991). Abbott was an American photographer known for her portraits of cultural figures of the interwar period (1918-1939), New York City photographs of architecture and urban design of the 1930s, and science interpretation of between the 1940s-1960s. This particular photograph is a part of the collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The Jefferson Market Court still stands today, but is now known as the Jefferson Market Branch of the New York City Library. It is found at 425 Avenue of the Americas in Greenwich Village in Manhattan. The building faced demolition in 1958, but public outcry led to its reuse as a branch of the library. It is found on the New York City Landmark Preservation Commission's Greenwich Village History District, the National Reigister of Historic Places (1972), and the National Historic Landmark list (1977). The building is de

3599 - Mequon, Wisconsin, United State of America

I wasn't sure at first about this card. Was it a painting or a photograph? It is a photograph of the Grand Hotel, Michigan.  The Grand Hotel is located on Mackinac Island, which is located at the eastern end of the Straits of Mackinac within Lake Huron. It was constructed starting in 1886 and built by the Michigan Central Railroad, Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad, and the Detroit and Cleveland Steamship Navigation Company. It quickly became a summer retreat for vacationers, which, of course, had to use the three companies to get to the hotel in the first place.  In 1957, the Grand Hotel was designated a State Historic Building in Michigan. In 1972, it made the National Register of Historic Place, and in 1989, it became a National Historic Landmark.  Notable guests including Thomas Edison, Mark Twain, and five United States Presidents.

3598 - Hong Kong

I'm not sure what the sender's card is all about. In their message, they mention a Korean television show called Dr. Romantic   낭만닥터 김사부. Dr. Romantic is about Boo Yong-joo, a triple-board certified surgeon who was once at the top of his field and used to work at Seoul's top medical centre. After a traumatic accident, he disappears and changes his name to Kim Sa-bu and begins working at a small hospital. He helps two doctors to become great doctors. Along the way he also teaches them how to fight for their patients, instead of power and money for the hospital.

3597 - Caldwell, North Carolina, United States of America

A great card from Louisiana. The sender used to live here, but moved to North Carolina. In her note, she's says she is also into genealogy and has discovered she is related to many people involved in the War of Independence, the American Civil War, and many of the other wars the United States has been involved in. Her most notable find is she is related to Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith of the American Civil War.  General Smith was born in St. Augustine, Florida in 1924. His parents were actually from Connecticut. His father was appointed a Superior Court Judge in Florida shortly after the United States took over the Florida Territory from Spain. Smith enrolled in the United States Military Academy and then to West Point in 1841. He graduated in 1845 and ranked 25th out of 41 cadets.  He served in the Mexican-American War under future president, General Zachary Taylor, and under General Winfield Scott. Smith and his brother, Captain Ephraim Smith, both served with the 5th
