I live in the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado. Colorado is a 'vote by mail' state, which is oddly rare amongst the 50 US states. We voted to have our ballots mailed to all registered voters. Thank goodness we can fill them out at home because Colorado's ballots are l-o-n-g. Citizens can put ballot issues via enough signatures and then the entire electorate votes for them. It's been mixed results. Sometimes it's a check on representative government, at other times it is issues that should be left to professionals.
One thing that has never changed is the trusty blue box. even with excellent regular mail delivery, my neighbours and I were distraught that we didn't have a Blue Box on the corner while an apartment building was constructed. It's back now. We like using it because we know the pick up time, don't worry about theft or loss from out mailbox at our house or the postal carrier simply not seeing outgoing mail, etc. Plus, it's satisfying to feed my postcards into the slot.
I write thousands of postcards a year with groups Markers for Democracy and Postcards to Voters. There is always an election somewhere in the 'United' States and over 3000 counties to adminster them. We write to remind voters when a special election or school board or mayor or state Supreme Court, etc, is occurring.
I started writing Postcards to Voters in 2020 and have made many friendsw across the US as five years later we still write together during Zoom postcards. I discovered a love of stamping and card making as a result.
I collect vintage Colorado postcards and state specific stamps when I find the right ones at the right prices and then hang onto them until just the right recipient crosses my path. I thought you would like the postal service related stamps. I ordered the 8-cent series and added in others I happened to have lying around. Hopefully, my math was correct!
Do you remember these folio cards? This one of Pike's Peak is older than me, thought :) The glorious thing about mountains is they don't care what you name them - they're just going to do their tectonic plate gig regardless. Manitou Springs is still fairly quaint.
