A very cool vintage card featuring Hiptenea Osceola and her baby brother, Conapatchee. They are Seminole, and the photo was taken in the Florida Everglades, near Miami. It was likely originally a black-and-white photograph that was later hand-coloured.
The sender is from Stuart, a small town in southern Virginia with a population of about 1,400 people. It was first known as Taylorsville in 1792, named in honour of an early settler. In 1884, it was renamed Stuart to honour J. E. B. Stuart, a Confederate major general who was born nearby.
