Point Roberts is a pene-exclave - a territory of one country that can be approached only through the territory of another country - of Washington on the southern most tip of Tsawwassen peninsula, south of Vancouver, British Columbia. As of 2020, there are 1191 people living there. In order to reach the United States by land from Point Roberts, a person needs to drive 40 kilometres through Canada. There is also direct sea and air connections across Boundary Bay. 

Point Roberts was created when the United Kingdom and the United States settled the Pacific Northwest American-Canadian border dispute with the Oregon Treaty. It established that the 49th parallel would defined the boundary between their territories. Point Roberts is south of the 49th parallel. There have been talks over the years about ceding the territory to Canada, but its status remains unchanged. 

Other exclaves include the Northwest Angle and Elm Point, Minnesota. About 150 Americans live here in the Northwest Angle. Elm Point is not inhabitated. people who wish to travel from the Northwest Angle and Elm Point via land must travel into Canada to reach the United States. Alburgh, Vermont, is a peninsula that extends from Canada into Lake Champlain. There are 2100 people living here. One also needed to travel to Canada by land to get to the rest of the United States, however there is now a bridge from Alburgh over Lake Champlain to New York State, just north of Addison, Vermont.
