Football (soccer) is a popular sport in Chengdu. Chengdu Tiancheng F.C. played in the second tier of Chinese professional football, commonly known as China League One, and hosted matches at the Chengdu Sports Center Stadium. The club was founded in 1996 and was originally known as Chengdu Wuniu (Five Bulls), named after its first sponsor, the Five Bulls Cigarette Company.
The team was involved in a match-fixing scandal in 2009 while competing in the Chinese Super League. As punishment, the club was relegated to the second tier, and ownership changes followed. The club later struggled financially and was dissolved in 2015.
