Ruijin (瑞金) is often considered the cradle of the Chinese Communist Revolution. After being forced out of the Jinggang Mountains, Chinese Communist forces regrouped in Ruijin. In 1931, Mao Zedong proclaimed the Chinese Soviet Republic, with Ruijin as its capital.
The Communists eventually withdrew from the city during the Long March after being surrounded by Nationalist forces.
Today, Ruijin remains a popular destination for “red tourism,” referring to sites significant to the history of communism in China. It also attracts visitors interested in nature and ecotourism, as well as some ideological pilgrims from China and abroad.
The photo on the front of the card is of Qianshan Mountains (千山), a scenic mountain range in northeastern China. The highest peak in the range rises to about 1,336 metres.
