Ogi is a city of just over 45 000 people. The modern city of Ogi was created in 2005 when Ogi absorbed the towns of Ashikari, Mikasuki, and Ushizu. Ogi's claim to fame is it is the city with the highest consumption of Yōkan in Japan.
Yōkan is a wagashi (Japanese confection) made of red bean paste, agar, and sugar. It's sold in block form and eaten in slices.
