The flag of Arizona is one of my favourite American flags. It was adopted in 1917. The flag was inspired by the current flag of Spain. The 13 rays of red and weld-yellow symbolize the Spanish conquistadores that explored the area. The centre star represents copper production: Arizona produced more copper than any other state. The blue and red on the flag are the same colours found on the American flag.
The North American Vexillological Association ranked Arizona's flag in sixth spot out of 72 North American flags. This was from a poll of members in 2001.
