Sandy is a city of almost 100 000 people located in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. There are a couple of theories as to how Sandy got it's name:
The first theory is Brigham Young named Sandy because of it's thirsty soil.
The second theory is it is named for Alexander "Sandy" Kinghorn, the engineer who ran the first train line to this end of the Salt Lake Valley.
Sandy is home to Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer and the Utah Royals of the National Women's Soccer League. Both play in America First Field (American First Credit Union) which has seats for 20 213 soccer spectators.
