Głogów has a population of 65 000 - almost the same as Medicine Hat. It dates back to the 10th century as a defensive settlement. Duke Konrad I awarded city rights to Głogów in the 13th century. It was a wealthy two for several centuries as it was located on several trade routes. Fortifications were demolished in the early 20th century in order to expand the city. With the Second World War, Głogów once again turned into a fortress down and suffered almost complete destruction.
Reconstruction efforts are being carried out to restore the historic pre-war appearance of the town.
SPR Chrobry Głogów plays in the Polish Superliga, the top tier of Polish handball. They were founded in 1961. They have never won the Superliga.
