Ebeltoft is one of the busiest tourist centres in Denmark. There are many summer homes and rentals, a marina, a golf course, and many child-friendly beaches. In the winter the population is about 7300 people, but in the summer the population soars.
There aren't many employment opportunities in Ebeltoft and several of the larger companies that used to employ unskilled workers have closed. Fishing and farming in the area are diminishing rapidly. The town is full of artisans - glass workers, potters, painters, and jewellery
designers.
Glasmuseet Ebeltoft (Ebelton Glass Museum) was created in 1985 by Danish glass artist Finn Lynggaard and Tchai Munch. The museum presents four to six exhibitions per year that focuses on contemporary glass art - both experimental work by younger artists and shows by well established artists. Glasmuseet Ebeltoft has 1500 objects by 600 artists in their collection.
